Crystals Museum Sofia

“Earth and Man” National Museum

In Sofia, there is a very special “Gem”. It is the “Earth and Man” National Museum. The items in this museum are minerals, semi-precious gemstones and crystals.

So, what are crystals? A crystal is another word for a semi-precious stone or gemstone.

A gemstone is a piece of mineral crystal that, in cut and polished form, is used to make jewellery or other adornments. Source: Wikipedia.

Crystals & Precious Gemstones

In the museum, you’ll find 20,000 sample minerals. From small to huge. As is the Smokey Quartz you immediately see when entering the museum are.

At a very young age, a youth friend of mine gave me Rose Quartz. We were just good friends, nothing more. And I think he felt that I needed it more than he did.

I still remember him telling me that this Rose Quartz was a very good stone for self-love and love.

About 9-10 years later, he committed suicide. And although I needed it badly, I now think often “I would, he’d kept it for himself”…

I remember telling myself this to my mother. Who answered, “don’t talk nonsense”. A stone can not do these things. She probably was talking about herself, as she was not able to give any motherly love.

Strange though is that she gave my brother an enormous Amethyst cluster. Because he was attracted to the energy of this gemstone.

This first semi-precious gem though sparked my interest in crystals. When I received it, it was the 1970s. The internet didn’t exist. The only way to improve your knowledge about an item you were interested in. Was?

Yes, what was that? An encyclopaedia, of course. And the library. The first we had at home. And the second about 15 is minutes walk from home. I used both and visited the library often.

Sometimes I was distracted, but there was always something that got me back to use crystals again. Instinctively feeling which stone I needed the most at that time of my life. But I do love almost all gemstones.

My Root and my Heart Chakra are the most unbalanced. Which isn’t a miracle. An outcome of how I have been treated during growing up.

And to the Throat Chakra are also not good in balance. But it was more open than the bottom ones. Strangely enough, my Third Eye & Crown Chakra were, and are, most in balance.

Personally, I am very attracted to Agate & Jasper stones. But again, I do love almost all gemstones.

A stone I don’t like that much, and I both have a love and hate relationship with, is Malachite. Not only I do not particularly like the colour of the stone, but I also don’t like the strength of its energy.

On Fuerteventura, I once bought a ring with a Malachite stone. Twice. The first one disappeared. From one moment to the other, “poef”, it was gone. Sometime later I came along another Malachite ring. It fitted perfectly, so I bought it. Only to disappear when I was packing my stuff to leave the Canary Islands.

Over the years I have collected many crystals & stones. In the beginning mainly in jewellery. Rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces. Over the last years, I also started to collect tumble stones, pocket stones. Just recently, I decided that I am going to start collecting crystal clusters & points. Below a photo with a small part of my collection.
